FRANCE - Dubai to increase Islamic Finance products to France


Dubai Exports, an agency of the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED), in partnership with Invest France conducted an Islamic Financial Services Trade Mission to France. The Trade Mission included leading UAE companies in all areas of the Islamic Financial sector from advisory firms and specialists in structuring of products to Shariah scholars and investment banks.  


Engineer Saed Al Awadi, CEO of Dubai Exports, commented, "The principle aim of this trade mission is to ensure that our firms are able to capitalize on global opportunities in the sector. As such we plan to conduct similar missions to Canada which is considering regulatory changes to its taxation laws to incorporate Islamic financial services as well as Indonesia which is home to the world's largest Muslim population of over 130 million people.(full story)

LUXEMBOURG - IFSB’s debut summit in Europe attracts widespread interest

This year’s 8th annual summit of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), scheduled to be held at the New Conference Centre Kirchberg in Luxembourg on May 10-13, is already making an impact.

The summit, hosted by the Banque Centrale de Luxembourg, is attracting particular interest from the European Union in addition to the traditional markets in the Middle East and Asia.

The summit indeed will be held for the first time in a EU country and Luxembourg is threatening to overtake the UK and France in spearheading Islamic finance in Europe. (full story)

AWARDS - LUXEMBOURG - UK - Winners of the Islamic Business & Finance 2010 Awards Revealed

(Dubai - 21 December, 2010) - Close to 300 distinguished regional and global industry professionals from around the world joined together in honouring the outstanding performance of leading Islamic financial institutions and individuals at the prestigious Annual Islamic Business & Finance Awards, where a total of 30 accolades were granted.

Held at Emirates Towers hotel in Dubai, the Awards ceremony celebrated achievement among top Islamic bankers, financiers and Islamic banking and finance institutions. Once again this year, Gulf-based institutions and individuals were able to compete head-to-head with their international peers, taking home more two thirds of the awards. Other winners were drawn from the United Kingdom, USA, Malaysia, Luxembourg, and Sudan.

GERMANY - Pak-Qatar Family Takaful plans rights shares (FWU Group)

The Pak-Qatar Family Takaful has decided to issue rights shares up to 33% of its capital at its board meeting chaired by Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah al-Thani, said a spokesman of the Shariah-compliant insurer. “The PQFT has the institutional capacity to cater to the protection and long-term investment needs of the people of Pakistan,” Sheikh Ali said. Principal shareholders of the PQFT are QNB, Masraf Al Rayan, International Islamic, Qatar Islamic Bank, Qatar Islamic Insurance, the Amwal group and Germany’s FWU group.
