RUSSIA - Development of Islamic banking in RF discussed at form in Grozny.

GROZNY, May 26 (Itar-Tass) —— The fourth international peacekeeping forum “Islam – Religion of Peace and Creativity” held in Grozny discussed the prospects for the development of Islamic banking in Russia and experience of foreign countries in this area. The best experts on the subject participated in the discussion at the round-table meeting on Thursday. (source)

Head of the project of ROSNO company for Islamic insurance Alexei Konovalenko set out his vision of the Road Map to Islamic finance in Russia. “There is a need for responsible approach to the development of Islamic banking in Russia,” he said. “We have a plan, first of all, to set up a working group to prepare legislative normative base and then suggest to the Russian government the implementation of pilot projects in Chechnya for an Islamic bank and insurance companies,” he said. He believes the republic precisely now can become a good pad for the development of Islamic banking in Russia.
Participants in the round table meeting passed a resolution, the main item of which is setting up the working group under Chechnya’s head Ramzan Kadyrov.
The meeting set out the tasks of constructive work to promote the establishment of Islamic banks and other financial institutions in the republic. This document will be included in the resolution of the fourth international peacekeeping forum “Islam - Religion of Peace and Creativity.”
